Kannawidan Ylocos Festival: Pride of the Ilocano Culture

          Ilocos Sur has a rich heritage and unique culture that is to be preserved for the next generations because it is observed that many of these traditions, songs, dances and other Ilocano culture are not familiar to the younger generations already. Children of today are paying more attention to the modern and novelty dances they have seen on the television than the traditional ones. As a result, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur has created a festival to highlight these issues. These cultural traditions are presented at the Kannawidan Festival.       The Kannawidan Festival takes place between the last week of January and the first week of February. Included in the course of events is the commemoration of the foundation day of the province.         Festivals are an integral part of Filipino culture, and they are held in every city. In honor of St. Paul the apostle, every year on January 25th, the Vigan Longganisa Festival takes place. Vigan residents hold a number of festivals during the year to commemorate their rich heritage. The festival attracts a large number of visitors who come to see the show's presentations. Vigan Town Fiesta features arts and crafts exhibits, carnivals, street dance events, and other fun performances that honor Vigan's cityhood spirit.        After a virus swept the globe, we now have to deal with this new normal and that includes having to follow the strict health protocols while celebrating the festival. Face masks and shields should be worn at all times. Physical distancing is also required, and anyone under the age of 15 and senior citizens are not permitted to attend the trade fair.
