Kannawidan Ylocos Festival: Pride of the Ilocano Culture

 

        Ilocos Sur has a rich heritage and unique culture that is to be preserved for the next generations because it is observed that many of these traditions, songs, dances and other Ilocano culture are not familiar to the younger generations already. Children of today are paying more attention to the modern and novelty dances they have seen on the television than the traditional ones. As a result, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur has created a festival to highlight these issues. These cultural traditions are presented at the Kannawidan Festival.

      The Kannawidan Festival takes place between the last week of January and the first week of February. Included in the course of events is the commemoration of the foundation day of the province. A lot of people look forward to this festival because of the thrilling competitions and fun concerts with some of the countries amazing bands and artists, as well as the opportunity to visit food stalls.

Our province is putting forward its best efforts to have the best and most exciting Kannawidan Festivals possible. It's a shame we weren't able to celebrate it like the previous years.
